Active Lifestyle Exercise Fitness Workout

Human bodies are designed for movement so a sedentary lifestyle and lack of movement has a significant impact.

Today in this modern age people are spending more and more time doing sedentary activities. Most of our time we often sit while using a computer or smartphone, watching TV or playing video games. Many of our jobs have become more sedentary with sitting at the desk for a many hours, days and even years.

And the way most of us get around involves sitting like in a car or bus.

Having an inactive lifestyle can be one of the causes of many chronic diseases.

What happens if we don't move as often?

If you regularly have a lack of movement it will lower your immunity, amount of motivation and it will increase the risk of lifestyle diseases and premature mortality. We burn fewer calories and our metabolism slows down. Our heart becomes weaker because it is also a muscle that needs to be exercised too. It affects our blood flow, joints, nerve cells, elasticity of our skin, our spine and so on and on and on... It can also affect our mental health with a higher risk of depression and anxiety.

  • You may have poorer blood circulation

  • You burn fewer calories, more likely to gain weight

  • You may lose muscle strength and endurance

  • Your immune system may not work as well

  • Your bones may get weaker

  • Your body may have more trouble breaking down fats and sugars

  • Your body may have more inflammation

  • You may develop a hormonal imbalance

There are so many health risks of an inactive lifestyle that I have personally experienced and for each of them moving my body or doing some form of activity was recommended to me by experts as a solution to the health problem.

Even for my previous car, which I kept in the garage for a long period because I didn't need it, it was recommended that I use it sometimes. Of course, I didn't so the rust blocked some parts and the car broke down a bit.

Ways to add movement to your daily routine:

  • Set a movement alarm for every 30 or more minutes to remind you

  • Stand up instead of sitting down whenever you can

  • Take regular breaks to move a little while working in front of the computer or watching TV. It can be a short walk to the kitchen to get a glass of drink, a couple of body movements or even a short dance

  • Take the stairs not the lift

  • Walk and talk. Even if you’re frequent user to your phone for work and personal calls, you don't have to sit while talking

So here we are not talking about special exercises for strength, endurance or preparation for the marathon of life. This is about pure logic and the functioning of our bodies which require movement for proper work, in one word life. Something that must be done. Every day.

For the rest of our lives.

In summary, everyday movement is effortlessly simple.

Everyday movements are fundamental to daily living.

How to start moving more? It is suggested to start simple, like with an easy walk.

More about that topic in our next article. You can find it here.

Sit less, move more!
